NUC approves new varsity for Bayelsa (The University of Africa, In bayelsa state)

Yenagoa Bayelsa State - The National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved the establishment of the University of Africa for Bayelsa, the 43rd state university in the country. This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Chief Press Secretary to the Bayelsa Governor, Seriake Dickson in Yenagoa on Saturday. According to the statement, NUC handed over the letter of approval to Gov. Dickson when he visited the commission in Abuja. It quoted Dickson as expressing gratitude to the NUC’s Executive Secretary for the warm reception accorded him and his team. ``The approval of the university followed the formal presentation of relevant gazette law, academic brief, physical master-plan as well as the satisfactory report of the advisory resource assessment visit by the commission. Dickson explained that the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, was conceived as a public private partnership venture and designed as a first rate institution of learning to attract some of the best teachers from Africa and the world. He said the university would be funded by private partners while the government would only provide the enabling environment for its establishment. ``I am here leading this small delegation to present to you these laws passed by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, establishing a new university working with the private sector. ``It will be run on a public private partnership (PPP), basis. Unlike the existing one, it will not be directly funded by the state. ``Our belief is that for a university to be sustainable, we must create room for private sector participation and involvement. ``The University of Africa, Toru-Orua, is the first of its kind in this country to be established by government with private sector involvement. ``It will be strictly a fee paying tertiary institution that will attract students from across the continent and the globe. ``It will be the model as we encourage more private universities in this country’’, Dickson said. The statement quoted Prof Julius Okojie, NUC’s Executive Secretary, as congratulating the state. Okojie said the establishment of the university took effect from July 28, having complied with the basic requirements. According to Okojie, the University of Africa is 143rd in the Nigerian university system.

Two women friends met after many years. funny joke

Two women friends met after many
years. "Tell me," said one, "What happened
to
your son?" "My son? the poor, poor lad!"
sighed the
other. "What an unfortunate marriage he made to a girl who won't do a stitch of
work in the house. She won't cook, she
won't sew, she won't wash or clean. All
she does is sleep and loaf and read in bed.
The poor boy even has to bring her
breakfast in bed, would you believe it?" "That's really awful!" "And what about your
daughter?" "Ah, now she's the lucky one!
She
married an angel. He won't let her do
anything in the house. He has servants to
do the cooking and sewing and washing and leaning. And each morning he brings
her breakfast in bed, would you believe it?
All she does is sleep for as long as she
wishes and spends the rest of the day
relaxing and reading in bed."

Nigeria Ranks 4th With 35% On Investment Return In The World

The Acting Managing Director, Bank of Industry (BOI), Mr Waheed Olagunju, said Nigeria ranked fourth with 35 per cent on return investment in the World.
Olagunju said this on Saturday in Lagos on the sidelines of BOI media parley titled: “Sustaining Nigeria’s industrial sector growth through impactful partnership’’.
He said that a lot of countries are in competition for investment resources.
According to Olagunju, the return on investment is much higher in Nigeria than other countries.
He said that return on investment should not be taken for granted, adding “we should try and de-risk our environment, improve on climate and continue to take measures by increasing our ranking in doing business.
“Industrialisation is a multi-faceted process, no single agency can capsulate industrialisation of any country, so all hands must be on desk.
“In terms of investment returns, we have rank number four with 35 per cent.
“Nigerians might go to other countries where they have 15 per cent return on investment where the risks are not has high as Nigeria.
“So we have to put all those things into consideration by ensuring that we promote industrialisation and transform the Nigeria economy within the shortest time possible,’’
Olagunju said. He said that if those things were not done, Nigeria may not be able to harmonise the challenges in the country, particularly that of unemployment. Olagunju said that Nigeria’s population was growing; therefore, there was the need to take a quick decision to remedy the challenges.
“We have lost many arms of development in our country; all hands must be on desk for us to achieve our desired economy and developmental goals.

Obasanjo rubbishes National Assembly, says it’s an assembly of thieves, looters

Nigeria’s former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, lashed out at the National Assembly, saying it is largely an assemblage of looters and thieves. INFORMATION NIGERIA brings you the biggest takeaways from his statement.
The former president said the National Assembly, which he said is shrouding its corruption in the opaque nature of its budget, has damaged its capacity to oversight the executive.
He accused the President Goodluck Jonathan-led executive of making direct payments to the legislature in order to cover up its wrong doings.
“Apart from shrouding the remunerations of the National Assembly in opaqueness and without transparency, they indulge in extorting money from departments, contractors and ministries in two ways,”He also said.
“They do so during visits to their projects and programmes and in the process of budget approval when they build up budgets for ministries and departments, who agree to give it back to them in contracts that they do not execute. They do similar things during their inquiries.”
Former President Obasanjo said the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has upped Nigeria’s corruption level through the huge sums of money it has been paying to the National Assembly to stop investigating its corrupt acts.
He equally pointed that, “Corruption in the National Assembly also includes what they call constituency projects which they give to their agents to execute but invariably, full payment is made with little or no job done.
The former president insisted that over the years, the National Assembly never singled out any corrupt lawmaker except where the executive led in the indictment of a member.
He listed some of the cases where the executive led in exposing corruption in the National Assembly to include those of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Salisu Buhari, and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara.
He maintained that majority of the members of the National Assembly live above the law in both misconduct and corruption and cannot in good conscience carry out oversight duties on any government ministry or department.
“When the guard is the thief, only God can keep the house safe and secure,” he said. “But I am optimistic that sooner than later, we will overcome.
“God will give us guards of integrity and honesty with the fear of God and genuine love of their people and their country. He submitted.
